Editorial Look Make- up Championship

The Editorial Look Makeup Championship will take place live on the show floor of Professional Beauty Dubai at the Festival Arena on 2 February. 

This competition will test entrants on their ability to create a professional editorial makeup look within a fixed time frame. The focus is on concept interpretation, technical execution, balance, finish, and suitability for editorial media such as fashion magazines and campaigns. All work will be carried out live on stage and judged by an independent panel of industry professionals.

Competition Format

  • Total competition time: 90 minutes
  • Makeup application must begin only once the model is seated on stage
  • Models must arrive with a completely bare face
  • Hair styling, jewellery, and outfit preparation may be completed off stage prior to the competition briefing will be conducted before the competition begins.

Category Brief Editorial Makeup

Entrants are required to create a fashion editorial makeup look suitable for professional print or digital editorial use. The look should demonstrate creativity while maintaining strong technical standards and a cohesive visual story.

Judging will be based solely on makeup application.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged on the following:

  • Technical makeup application
  • Blending and finish
  • Concept interpretation
  • Balance and structure
  • Suitability for editorial media
  • Colour harmony and creativity
  • Overall cohesion of the final look
  • Adherence to the category brief and rules

Hair, jewellery, and outfit are not included in judging.

The Prize

The overall winner will win a trophy, certificates, products and cash prize.

Rules & Regulations

To ensure fairness, transparency, and international competition standards, all entrants must comply with the following rules:

  1. The total competition time is strictly 90 minutes.
  2. Models must arrive on stage with a completely bare face, free from makeup, skincare, primer, or pre applied products.
  3. Makeup application may begin only after the official start signal is given.
  4. Any makeup applied before the competition start will result in disqualification.
  5. Hair, jewellery, and wardrobe styling may be completed off stage only and must not be altered during competition time.
  6. Entrants must supply their own model, makeup products, tools, brushes, and disposables.
  7. Sharing of products, tools, or equipment between competitors is strictly prohibited.
  8. Use of pre-drawn guidelines, mapping, stencils, or pre-applied base work on the model is not permitted.
  9. Airbrushing, digital devices, or mechanical application tools are not permitted, unless otherwise stated by the organisers.
  10. Reference images, mobile phones, tablets, or smart devices are not permitted during the competition.
  11. Entrants must remain within their allocated workspace for the duration of the competition.
  12. Touch-ups after the final time call are not allowed.
  13. Communication with judges during active competition time is not permitted.
  14. Models must be 18 years of age or older.
  15. Late arrival of either the entrant or model may result in disqualification at the discretion of the organisers.
  16. Any behaviour deemed unsafe, disruptive, or unprofessional may result in immediate disqualification.
  17. Final and binding and are not open to appeal.
  18. The organisers reserve the right to amend rules where necessary to ensure fair and smooth execution of the competition.

General Rules & Regulations

Eligibility

  • Open to certified makeup artists, students, or professionals as specified by the organiser.
  • Participants must hold valid identification.

Categories

Competitors may participate only in the category they are registered for, such as:

  • Arabic Bride Makeup
  • Fashion Editorial Makeup
  • Avant-Garde / Creative Makeup

Time Regulations

  • Each category has a strict time limit as announced.
  • Time warnings will be given.
  • Brushes must be down at the final call.
  • Late completion may result in point deductions or disqualification.

Products & Tools

  • No pre-applied makeup on the model.
  • Prohibited items include:
  1. Airbrush machines (unless permitted)
  2.  Stencils or pre-drawn guides

Hygiene & Sanitation

  • Clean, sanitised brushes required
  • Disposable applicators for mascara and lip products
  • Sanitiser must be present at the workstation
  • Unsanitary practices may result in immediate disqualification

Models

  • Models must not assist with makeup application.
  • Models must comply fully with competition rules.

Assistance & Conduct

  • No external assistance permitted.
  • No communication with spectators or trainers.
  • Mobile phones, smart devices, or reference images are prohibited
  • Any form of cheating results in disqualification

DubaiJudging & Authority

  • Judging will be conducted by certified national or international judges.
  • Judges’ decisions are final and non-negotiable.
  • Scores may not be disclosed.

Safety

  • No use of harmful chemicals or unsafe tools.
  • All adhesives, lashes, and products must be safe and approved.
  • Any injury or reaction must be reported immediately.

Dress Code

  • Professional attire required (black or neutral preferred).
  • Closed footwear recommended.

Code of Ethics

  • Professional conduct is mandatory.
  • Any misconduct, discrimination, or harassment will result in disqualification.

Protests & Amendments

  • Written complaints only; no verbal disputes.
  • Organisers reserve the right to amend rules.
  • Participation implies full acceptance of all regulations.
