B the Change

Recent reports suggest that 80% of global consumers agree that business must play a role in addressing societal issues, whilst 86% of employees believe it is important that their own employer is responsible to society and the environment. So, it would appear that for companies to future-proof themselves, they should aim to not only deliver financial performance, but also make a positive contribution to society.
Naturally, there is already a movement in place to help companies achieve this lofty goal. The B Corp ™movement was born in the United States in 2006 with one ambitious goal: to help companies to find a balance between “profit” and “purpose”. This global network of for-profit companies have redefined their business model to exert a positive impact on people and on the planet, meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This means that all companies that receive the B Corp Certification status should compete not only to be the best in the world, but the best for the world!
March is noted as B Corp month, designed to celebrate companies that seek a balance between their philosophy and finances. To date, there are more than 3,790 CERTIFIED B Corp companies and coherent with his main value of Sustainable Beauty, the Davines group, which includes both the Davines and Comfort Zone brands, has been certified for the past six years. Davines first obtained the B Corp certification in 2016, with a score of 99. Three years later, it was re-certified, having managed to improve its score to 117.4. Even more impressively, the group has achieved the “Best for The World” award in both 2018 and 2019. This award is given to companies that obtain the best scores in the specific areas of the B Impact Assessment (BIA): environment, governance, customers, communities, workers. The “Best For Environment” category specifically rewards 10% of the more than 3,790 B Corp companies that have achieved the best results in the environmental sustainability segment.
As you would expect from a B Corp company, the Davines headquarters and the ranges produced here stand as testament to their loyalty and respect to the planet. The scientific vegetable botanical garden is a veritable “open air laboratory,” which includes medicinal and aromatic plants, fruit trees and vegetables grown for experimentation, demonstration, and culinary purposes. The garden is at disposal of the Research and Development Laboratory to devise new and improved formulations for the products. Through pioneering innovation, the formulations of both brands are free from silicones, synthetic fragrance, animal derivatives, mineral oil, artificial colorants, SLS and SLES. As an added bonus, each of the products has been made in Italy with renewable resources and recyclable CO2 compensated packaging.
As well as offering game-changing hair and beauty products to the market, Davines is continually striving to make a tangible difference to the planet. To embrace its sustainability mission, Davines launched its first partnership with Plastic Bank in 2021, the objective of which was to prevent 100 tonnes of plastic from being dispersed in the sea, contributing to collections on the coasts of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brazil. Last year, the group undertook one of the most challenging and ambitious commitments to date: for every product sold by the Davines Group either from its Davines haircare ranges or Comfort Zone skincare lines in 2022, an equal amount of ocean-bound plastic was collected and removed from the environment through collaboration with Plastic Bank. As a result of this initiative, all Davines’ products will be entitled to be labelled 100% Certified Plastic Neutral by Plastic Bank from now on.
The cornerstone of Plastic Bank’s work hinges on community-based initiatives that engage and financially recompense a local community, while improving the natural coastal landscape.
Therefore, this agreement between Davines and Plastic Bank will not only protect our planet but will improve the lives of local collectors in Indonesia, Brazil and the Philippines.
