Fake cosmetics warning issued in the UAE

UAE residents have been warned of the harmful impact fake cosmetic goods can have if used. The warning came after 366 boxes of fake cosmetic goods were seized by the Abu Dhabi Municipality. The civic body identified the dodgy products during a recent inspection on shops and retail outlets.

The confiscated items were mostly cosmetics, whitening and medical creams which can pose serious health risks if used. Some of the items bore the labels of well-known brands.

Dr Saeed Mohammed Qarwash Al Romaithi, director of the department of public health at the municipality comments: "Residents should always do some research and take a pragmatic approach when they buy cosmetic products. People should bear in mind that if something is really cheap, it's likely to be fake and could potentially be harmful."

Municipality has called on people to report any concerns about fake products, so that authorities can take action against the errant traders.

Officials also urged the public to buy these items from well known retail outlets or pharmacies that comply with public health standards.
