Hair on stage
HAIR ON STAGE is the Davines international globetrotting event, which offers a unique opportunity to watch Davines stylists and some of the best names in the international hairdressing arena showcase their creativity in a series of inspiring hair shows.
This year, on June 11th and 12th more than 1200 hairstylists from 35 countries gathered in Paris to explore new hair trends directly from the voice of Davines hair gurus. A very special year that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the company – born in 1983. It is also a special celebration due to the opening of the new French offices in the heart of Paris.
The shows themselves, which were themed around the concept “You Are That” inspired by Sanscrit literature, took place on the 12th at the Theatre du Chatelet and ended at the Chatelet du Lac with an extraordinary party in pure Davines style: creative clothes and excellent music made the evening an unforgettable experience.
Davines Hair Art Director Tom Connell debuted his latest project “A pile of not so little things” - a compilation of four very different and unique chapters through a cinematic shooting.
Chapter 1: Ideas on North 11th street: New York-inspired, the main look features a disconnection: a fairly traditional short cut with a panel of long hair taken asymmetrically from the center parting across the head and closed one way at the back with a knot.
Chapter 2: With the band: In this chapter we see some inspirational looks made with colored hair bands decorated with stripes or patterns. Very minimalist yet innovative. Tom has been working on these hair bands for a few years, collaborating with fashion designers and fabric patterns that are then replicated on the hair.
Chapter 3: Échantillons de coleur: Two strong looks with pastel-colored hair: a light blue and a pink mixed with the model's natural color to create something that still holds earthy tones.
Chapter 4: Mono-chrome domes
In the final chapter, Tom presented very long and exaggerated black braids, staggered between red sections of the natural hair. The red hair was cut in a shaggy texture, while the black braids disconnected each section, showing a mixture of haircuts and hairdressing.
There were also shows from other revered stylists, including ALLILON and RICHARD JORDAN & MARRIET GAKES.
Several salons from the Middle East accompanied EIDEAL, the distributor for Davines in the Middle East, to the event. These included The Green House, Bellacure, Remedy Room, THT, Boho, Trinity, Definition, Soak, First Persona, Hush and Salon Ink.
Asked about the event, Haysam Eid, Managing Director of EIDEAL said: "Hair On Stage always inspires and excites stylists and this year was no different. It was amazing to watch the individual shows and see how Davines continues to push the boundaries in the hair industry, not only with its array of products but with how they can be used to create artistic and visionary hair styles. It was an honour to attend the event with some of the most revered stylists from the Middle East and feel their passion for Davines grow as they witness firsthand the brand's uniqueness and understand how it can enhance what they can offer to their clients in the salon environment."
