Luxury brand Hermès launches into the competitive cosmetic market

Luxury French fashion house, Hermès branches into the Makeup Cosmetics Market with lipsticks! Hermès best known for its coveted Birkin bag, which sells upwards of $10,000 will launch a more accessibly priced range of makeup products under Hermès Beauty.

Kicking off the launch Hermès Beauty has released 24 lipstick shades under Rouge Hermès, in both matte and satin finishes. In true Hermès tradition the shades of lipstick are steeped in the history of the brand, chosen from the brands archive of over 900 leather shades and 75,000 silk swatches.

The high-end makeup will be priced at 62 euros a lipstick (which equates to approx. 260 AED). The lipstick will be packaged in a tri-colour case, designed by Pierre Hardy the creative director of Hermès jewellery and shoes. The tubes are environmentally-friendly designed with no plastic and are in fact also refillable. Developed in house at a partner factory, in contrast to other luxury fashion houses like Gucci who decided to outsource their production under license to brands like Coty and L’Oréal.

Hermès joins the ranks of other luxury fashion houses vying for a piece of the lucrative cosmetic market. As fans speculate of foundation and maybe even skincare in their near horizons.
