Optimise your skin health with new probiotic skincare products from Esse: Bacteria for your beauty regime now available in UAE

Probiotics are live microbes that are good for you. You might already use them for gut health, but they are just as relevant for skin.
The Esse Skincare lab develops new probiotics that can shift the microbial ecology on your skin to favour a diverse ecosystem that is healthy enough to protect you from pathogens and slow the rate of inflammation-related ageing.
Esse products seed the skin with live probiotic microbes that out-compete pro-ageing species and feed with prebiotic nutrients to advantage microbes that improve the microbial ecology on the skin.
Synthetic chemicals pollute the skin’s ecosystem, so our products are certified organic by Ecocert. We believe that mindful products are a step towards an indefinitely sustainable and beautiful future.
The South African skincare brand was brought to the UAE by Wellness United in April, and has two serums that host live bacteria.
“The lactobacillus we use produces lactic acid on the skin’s surface and keeps the pH level low, between 4 and 5, which is where it’s supposed to be. It also produces hyaluronic acid, a great moisturiser, and it is selectively toxic to pathogenic microbes,” says Trevor Steyn, an organic chemist-turned-microbiologist, and founder of Esse.
Esse is one of only a handful of brands that has been able to sustain on a large scale the highly complex process of introducing and retaining live bacteria in its products.
