Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara opens wellness & meditation centre

Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara’s sustainability practices have earned the resort Gold status in the Green Growth Awards, which cover a wide range of CSR goals from Environmental Stewardship to Health and Safety and Human Rights.

In 2013 the resort was awarded Green Globe Certification for its energy-saving and environmentally sensitive architecture, as well as its efforts in waste management and water consumption, and the resort has achieved this certification every year since.

Apart from a raft of sustainable and green initiatives, the resort also recently launched its fabulous Wellness & Meditation Centre.

Located on the edge of the Empty Quarter, you’ll get endless views of golden dunes, making Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara the perfect destination for self-reflection and rediscovering inner balance.

Book this and you will, of course, be able to do so with a clear, green conscience.

The launch of the resort’s even greener foundation and raft of recently implemented sustainability initiatives build upon a broad platform of existing energy and carbon-saving practices.

To say that the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is staying true and strong to its sustainable luxury ethos would be an absolute understatement.

Adrian Stoppe, the General Manager of Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, lists the admirable initiatives that have and are taking place at the luxury resort, in order to maintain and deepen its green focus.

No more plastic bottles

These have all recently been replaced by biodegradable bottles. The sustainable material is made from corn, where lactic acid is extracted and converted into 100 per cent plant resin, which biodegrades in 80 days. Recycled in bio-degradable bins, it either goes to composting or is reused to make new plant resin bottles. The property already went 100 plastic straw-free back in 2018

Renewable energy

Solar panels harness the power of the desert sun to create hot water for all guest rooms and villas, and for the resort’s laundry. The solar water heating system is environmentally friendly, absorbing free and renewable solar energy and using it to produce hot water economically, reducing the use of conventional energy, such as electricity, by up to 80 per cent. The resort used the power of the sun effectively to fulfil its commitment of Sustainable Luxury and save an estimate 97,000 kw/h per month to date.

The march towards zero waste

The kitchens at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara are in full swing on the green front. It now creates its own compost for an onsite vegetable greenhouse and herb garden, which in turn supply organic produce for signature items on the menu. 100 per cent of the grey water is used to irrigate the resort’s gardens, while cardboard, oil, paper and bars of soap are all recycled.

Guests help too

The resort is also requesting guests get in on the act too, encouraging them to help protect the environment and minimise waste and consumption through various onsite programmes for smart water and power usage. To further encourage responsible travel, visitors arriving in electric cars will find complimentary car charging stations at the resort, which have recently been installed.

Head to the recently opened Wellness & Meditation Centre at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, where you’ll get to kick back in the indoor relaxation room and on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Rub Al Khali. There’s plenty to align your wellbeing, with a programme of yoga and meditation classes, both sunset and sunset, for groups, not to mention personalised private sessions for guests seeking an individual path.

There are private yoga and meditation sessions, specially tailored for your requirements too.   To enhance the wellbeing, natural rattan leaf mats are used for the yoga sessions, pure cotton and coconut seeds filled cushions are used for the meditation sessions.
