The F.A.M.E. Team wow the audience at Salon Africa
Who are the F.A.M.E Team?
In 1946 The Fellowship of Hair Artists of Great Britain was founded, and over the years has grown in stature and is now recognised as The Fellowship for British Hairdressing. Covering aspects of the hairdressing industry including shows, educations and promoting artistic and creative quality. A not-for-profit organisation, which is led by Council members who provide their expertise unpaid, The Fellowship for British Hairdressing strives for the best practice and represents the majority of premium salons in the UK through a membership programme. With the members reflecting a 'who's who' of the industry with Past Presidents including Trevor Sorbie MBE, Errol Douglas MBE, Beverly C MBE, and in April this year Bruno Marc was welcomed as The President for the next two years.
This year's F.A.M.E Team visit Salon Africa, and below is their diary of events....
Day One
After not sleeping for the 11 hour flight due to excitement The F.A.M.E. Team touched down in South Africa and were met by Commercial Director Phil Woods. After a beautiful breakfast they checked into their hotel in Johannesburg before heading over to their model casting. Lots of models arrived hoping to be chosen for the show and with guidance from Project Leader Antony Licata The F.A.M.E. Team selected their final choices. Luckily so many of the girls were up for a change and it was great to be able to discuss with them lots of new ideas. Then it was back to the hotel to change and get ready for a welcome dinner with Phil. Not a bad way to end the first day!
Day Two and Three
Wella Headquarters were kind enough to provide the use of their venue for The F.A.M.E. Team to prepare for the shows. Both days were used to pre-cut and colour the models, while also practising their looks together. Clothes fittings also took place, as well as rehearsing the show in full to make sure they were completely prepared. Both nights Phil made sure everyone was treated to drinks and dinner with The F.A.M.E. Team stating “we had one of the best steaks we have ever had in our life!”
Day Four
An early start for The F.A.M.E. Team as they made final preparations for their first show. It is safe to say they woke up feeling both nervous and excited for getting up on stage. The show went really well and The F.A.M.E. Team were incredibly proud of how everything went. Jamie and Rosie worked on longer hair models, while Zoe and Melissa demonstrated some stunning haircuts. The shows were an hour long and The F.A.M.E. Team made sure they filled the time with lots of tips, skills and advice. That evening Jamie, Melissa, Rosie and Zoe, along with Project Leader Antony Licata, got glammed up ready for the South African Professional Beauty Awards and what an evening it was. The dinner was amazing and everyone ended the night on the dance floor.
Day Five
Another early morning alarm for everyone as they got ready for their second show but this time they were on a little earlier. Different models had been decided for their stage slot and they spent the time before making sure they were fully prepared. The audience was packed and really excited to see The F.A.M.E. Team. Another huge success for Jamie, Melissa, Rosie and Zoe as they wowed the crowd before posing for lots of photos from their South African fans. It was then time to say goodbye to Johannesburg and thank everyone at Salon Africa for everything they had done for them. It really was an amazing 5 days and The F.A.M.E. Team were sad to be leaving.
Day Six and Seven
The F.A.M.E. Team arrived in Capetown to spend a couple of days sightseeing and relaxing. Starting the day with a power cut was not going to dampen their spirits as they woke up to look out to the most stunning of views. Victoria and Albert Waterfront greeted them with The F.A.M.E. Team describing it as “like nothing they had seen before”. These last two days were spent unwinding by the beach and sipping cocktails at the waterfront, although the sea was too cold for the girls! The perfect end to an incredible trip.
Antony Licata, F.A.M.E. Team Project Leader, said "What an amazing experience we all had in South Africa's biggest Expo Salon Africa. The F.A.M.E. Team were invited to appear on the main stage as the Expos only International artists. Casting and preparation went really well and we had a fantastic group of models who loved their transformations. The event was extremely busy and the F.A.M.E. Team shows drew huge audiences. Melissa , Jamie , Rosie & Zoe rose to the occasion and enthralled the audience with their expertise and also with their own personal Fellowship experiences explaining Clubstar, Colour Project & Project X as well as their F.A.M.E. Team experience. We were looked after by Commercial Director Phil Woods and Managing Director Mark Maloney the whole time we were there and when the show was finished we decided to visit Cape Town for a couple of days which made the whole experience perfect."
A huge thank you to everyone at Hairdressers Journal for giving The F.A.M.E. Team such an amazing opportunity to showcase their work. It really was something they will never forget and they enhanced their skills, confidence and also made some amazing memories along the way. A special mention to Phil Woods for going above and beyond over the few days
