Top Stylists from UAE embrace Davines' latest collection, Coastline Reflects

Inspired by the colour palette of the sea and its surrounding areas, Coastline Reflects is the latest collection from Davines Hair Art Director, Tom Connell.

Embracing a metallic reflective colour palette each look was crafted to take cues from the natural beachside elements - deep rust-coloured rocks, whitewashed stones, bronze sand, and pearlescent reflections dancing upon the water's surface. Emerging from these touchpoints and using two new application techniques, “freemapping" and "freescaping," four subtle but distinct looks were created, brushed bronze, shimmer blend metallic frame and metallic anti-frame. Each innovative look was crafted using the new Davines Colour Blending Brush in conjunction with six fresh nuances of VIEW, Davines’ demi-permanent line.

Recently, four stylists from the Davines UAE community were invited to reimagine Tom Connell's essence of Coastline Reflects with a regional twist. The resulting looks perfectly capture both the essence of the Collection and the distinct feel of the stylists’ adopted homeland’s coastline.

“What I really love about this collection is how it mirrors elements of nature’s beauty and how it can look different, depending on how the sunlight touches them. I decided to use the metallic frame as my inspiration but also used the sun-kissed look seen in children's hair as my muse. This subtle and effortless vibe is perfect for salon clients looking for low-maintenance styles with a natural flair.”

The Technical Details: I used the backcomb technique for my client, focusing on blending her natural and coloured hair seamlessly, especially along the hairline. I applied foils closer to the hairline and gradually increased the spacing as I moved away from the roots. Using Progress from Century of Light with 10 vol activator. I used the free mapping technique, painting curl by curl while adding dimension using “Mask with Vibrachrom 9.11” with 30 vol. After processing, I cleansed the hair in Naturaltech Nourishing shampoo and conditioner. I wanted to add strength and integrity back to the hair so used Naturaltech Keratin Wonder Super Active before toning. Using “View 6.27” as a root shadow, “View 8.27” through the mid lengths and a mix of “View 8.27”, “View 7.21”, and “View 9.22” on the ends with a 10 vol developer, leaving it on for 20 minutes.

“My choice of colour palette was inspired by the beauty of a radiant golden sunset. The combination of both warm and cool metallic tones in Davines new Coastline Collection helped me to achieve this desired effect.”

Michelle Morris, Trinity Hair Salon

The Technical Details: First, I carefully sectioned the hair into a halo section to add brightness and depth throughout. Beginning with strategic highlighting around the face frame, extending from behind the ears down to the nape, I used a combination of slicing and weaving techniques to enhance dimension. I then carefully mapped out the placement of colours on the hair, considering the natural texture and flow. For the base colour I used 24g of “View 6.27” combined with 6g of “View 7.3” and 10 vol, seamlessly transitioning into the lightened mid-lengths achieved through Century of Light Progress with 30 vol then toned with 8g of “View Bronze”, 22g of” View 9.32” and 10 vol. Using the new blending brush, I delicately enhanced the ends with Century of Light Progress with 20 vol, toning with a blend of 15g of “View 10.21”, 15g of “View 10.1”, 6g of “View 10.34”, and 10 vol to achieve a seamless finish.

“Inspired by the variation of the sea front coast meeting the soft edges of sand, I wanted a look that showcased both soft movement in colour reflection as seen when light bounces from nature, but also a haircut that enhanced the bold and sharp lines of the coast. My take on metallic anti-frame, was to incorporate a pop of colour around the tempo lobe and the ear so as the wind blew, you would see that bronze golden reflect. The result was a bronde colour with pops of golden and bronze throughout the hair.”

Lucy Palmer, Boho Salon Dubai

The Technical Details: To create this style, I spent time free mapping slice highlights around the ear section, working my way up to the head curvature to maintain maximum colour definition. Using Paper Not Foil and Century of Light Liberty (20vol 1:2) I worked in diagonal sections from the corner of the eyebrow until the crown. By taking a mixture of fine and thick weaves, I was able to create dimension using Davines blending brush and paddle for smooth transitions. Next, I toned the panelling around the ear with 10g “View 7.3”, 10g “View Bronze”, 2g “View Ruby” before globally glossing the hair with 25g “View 8.27” and 5g “View 7.3” 10vol. To cleanse the hair, I used Heart of Glass shampoo, before proceeding with Heart of Glass Instant Bonding Glow for 10 minutes. Finally, I used the Heart of Glass Intense Treatment for 10 minutes to achieve a silky-smooth finish. When it came to styling, I first prepped the hair with More Inside Blowdry Primer and Texturizing Serum to give a workable look. Then I used Davines new Dry wax, as well as a finishing spray to emphasize the sharpness and separation of my blunt, bob cut. This is a style that is very easy to change, and you can easily showcase the pops of colour from around the ear by styling it in a sleeker way.

“One of my key inspirations is nature so the Coastline Reflects collection really spoke to me! I wanted to create looks inspired by the sunset seen on the UAE’s coastline so the looks I chose to be central to my moodboard were the metallic frame and brushed bronze. I kept the natural texture of my model’s hair but added some volume using a diffuser, Texturizing Serum and Blowdry primer from More Inside styling range by Davines. The cut enhances the model’s hair texture as well as it shows the model’s personality.”

Diana Arutyunyan, It’s Beauty

The Technical Details: I used free mapping technique with a new Davines brush to blend the lightener. For the colour I made 3 formulas using View 5.4 on shadow root and View Bronze and View Ruby with a dash of View 5.4 for the length, mixing different shades to give some dimension and depth. I used Nourishing Keratin Wonder Superactive before I toned my model to equalize porosity and strengthen the strands after lightening. Finally, after we washed the colour, I used the Replumping line with a filler to seal it, give it vibrancy and keep the colour fresher for longer.
