UAE among world's highest spenders on beauty products
Residents spend $239 per capita, while the MENA region as a whole spend $30b on beauty and wellness products
UAE residents are among the world's highest per capita spenders on beauty products, forking out up to $239 (AED878) in 2016, according to the latest figures from Euromonitor International.
The figures, which were released alongside annual Dubai-based exhibition Beautyworld Middle East 2017, showed the Gulf country was ranked seventh in the world, up two places since 2015.
Dubai alone traded $5.6bn (AED20.7bn) worth of perfumes and cosmetics in 2016 and imported, exported, and re-exported $1.4bn (AED5bn) worth of products in the first quarter of 2017, according to figures by Dubai Customs.
The Middle East and North Africa region as a whole spent a whopping $30bn (AED110bn) on beauty and personal care items in 2016.
