Here are a few tips & tricks to ace your social media strategy.
Tip 1 – Target Audience
Think about who your target audience is. Tailor your strategy to reflect targeting these individuals – this can be as simple as activating the right platform.
For example – if your target audience is Moms, Facebook tends to work better to appeal to this market. While the millennial can easily be engaged through Instagram & Ticktock.
Tip 2 – Keep to your branding
Think about who you are as a business, let your social media reflect that. Meaning if you are a salon that is modern and minimalistic, choose imagery that reflects that mood and aesthetic. Let this be reflected in all your content, from Instagram stories to static posts. Utilize apps to create custom story templates that reflect your branding and aesthetic.
Apps to create custom content for social media -
- Canva - Web & Mobile capabilities, Canva is a multimedia design platform that allows users to create social media graphics
- Unfold - Create, edit and share beautiful stories with templates, text, fonts and filters.
- Dazzle - Create awesome stories! 80+ static & animated templates
Stay away from content that is trendy, if it doesn’t resonate with who you are. For example delicious instagramable food, keep it off your feed – focus on your services and products. Your social media is a window into your salon/spa, just as important as the reception area this can sometimes be the first impression that a prospective customer has of your property.
Tip 3 – Consistency is key.
Consistency, Consistency, Consistency – keep posting engaging content!
Think of employing a schedule for your content. This will help you organize your posts, and help plan ahead to communicate new product launches and promotions. Use Apps like Planoly or Unum for Instagram, which help you plan your feed and even autopost for you!
Boosting is when you put a bit of spend behind your post on Instagram business. This can really help increase your reach. This is the new age of advertising, Instagram is flooded with content and sometimes your content needs a bit of a ‘boost’ to reach their intended audience. Even the smallest marketing budgets can benefit from this. Remember to boost images that have CTA’s (calls to actions). Or branding that is unique to your business and therefore identifiable as your content.
Engage with your community, remember to tag your location, use hashtags that are relevant to your content and engage with your target audience. Mix up the locations you tag, use different hashtags and keep evolving – your strategy shouldn’t be static. Engaging can be as simple as post testimonials, posting what’s going on in your salon/spa (training days, special offers, new team members). Communicate pricing of your treatment menu! This is simple, and often overlooked - would you eat at a restaurant without prices?
As a rule of thumb, short videos tend to get better engagement that static posts.
Tip 4 – Keep up with analytics
Analytics can be the single most powerful tool to understanding your social media strategy. It gives you feedback on what’s working and what’s not. Instagram has a powerful tool called ‘insights’ it will show you top performing posts and simple segmented analytics. This will help you answer the question ‘Am I reaching my target audience?’. If not, try different platforms and do some research into which platforms they are using. This can be done, by simply asking current clients which platforms they use the most. Or by doing a bit of competitor analysis.
Try employing social media offers, this will help you track who is coming in because of social media efforts.
Don’t get caught up in the numbers, like follower count. Your salon will feel the impact of your social media efforts if done correctly. Real engagement with your target audience is the only number that will have an effect on your bottom line. Remember social media is a virtual window into your salon/spa, give prospective clients the right first impression.
