According to the Global Wellness Institute, the wellness market is today, valued at over $4.5 trillion, with more of us investing in self-care and wellbeing than ever before. Key sectors under this umbrella include personal care, beauty, wellness tourism, the spa economy, workspace wellness and mineral springs.
The spa sector alone has been growing by 9.9 per cent yearly from 2015 to 2017, and it is predicted to reach $128 billion in 2022. With the industry booming, the rise and demand of wellbeing experiences cannot be overlooked, particularly as worldwide stress levels continue to increase amid the ongoing pandemic.
With this in mind, Bazaar ventured into the world of healing, trying out the Heavenly Spa by Westin in Dubai. Designed to melt away all vestiges of stress, the aptly titled spot is famed for its avant-garde approach to physical wellness and mental health, with each holistic treatment focusing on both.
The luxury space boasts over ten fragrant, warm therapeutic rooms, saunas, steam rooms and jazuzzis. “We use award-winning brands like Elemis, FarmHouse Fresh, and Coola offering decadent skincare products from head-to-toe leaving our guests youthful, rejuvenated and glowing,” says Vanessa Grgurin, Spa Manager of The Heavenly Spa by Westin.
“Moreover, we strive to create bespoke packages tailored to the needs of each guest.” Just three months ago the spa launched a bespoke package including a sixty-minute FarmHouse Fresh Swedish Massage, pool and beach access at Mina Seyahi Complex and lunch at the vegan-friendly, Bounty Beets restaurant.
The Swedish massage begins with three engraved stones; Love, Gratitude and Hope. I chose the latter, before being pampered with FarmHouse Fresh; a skincare range comprising organic ingredients sourced from US farms.

With these three words presented at the very beginning, the idea is to cultivate positive thinking throughout the massage, mentally uplifting and releasing physical tension. “Mental health is essential to our overall wellbeing,” says Vanessa.
“When we feel mentally well, we can work productively, enjoy our free time, and contribute positively to our everyday life.” A warm compress is applied on my back, inviting all muscles to relax before the magic begins.
All FarmHouse Fresh products are free of paraben and sulfate, and all fragrances are phthalate-free, irrespective of whether they are all-natural, synthetic blends or essential oils.
From pressure to area, the treatment is tailored according to personal preference, relaxing every sense. Upon choice, a warm pillow is placed gently on the eyes to block out any trace of light. Post-treatment, I am served hot peppermint tea in the nearby relaxation room, gently completing the experience.
The key takeaway? 2021 is the year of healing and nurturing the mind, body and soul, wholeheartedly. ■ heavenlyspadubai.com
