Grand Hyatt Dubai successfully transitions to a paperless environment, paving the way for a greener tomorrow
In a remarkable move towards sustainability, Grand Hyatt Dubai has significantly reduced its environmental footprint by eliminating paper usage throughout the hotel. Commencing in 2023, a strategic removal of printers from various administrative offices was initiated, beginning with departments like sales & marketing, operational areas, and front-of-house spaces.
The hotel, part of the Hyatt Hotels Dubai portfolio, has seen a drastic reduction in the number of printers available for guest use, from 42 to less than eight, with only one designated for administrative needs. This bold step is part of the hotel's commitment to a paperless revolution, aligning with its overarching goal of 'Care for the planet.'
Moritz Frings, EAM – sales & marketing, highlights the successful transition, stating, "It was a shock for many at first, but our team adapted quickly. Now, our processes are even more efficient, benefiting our planet in a meaningful way and positively impacting our business."
Fathi Khogaly, managing director of Grand Hyatt Dubai and area vice president of the Hyatt Hotels Dubai portfolio, champions the vision of sustainability and efficiency. "It's not just about minimizing paper usage; it's about embracing a new way of thinking and showing the world that we are committed to a greener, more sustainable tomorrow," says Khogaly.
The commitment to a paperless environment has yielded impressive results. By August 2023, Hyatt Hotels Dubai collectively reduced paper consumption by printing 1.4 million fewer papers compared to the previous year, a remarkable 48 percent decrease. Grand Hyatt Dubai achieved its ambitious goal of becoming a paperless property by November 2023, setting a new standard in the industry.
The success at Grand Hyatt Dubai has sparked a broader movement within the Hyatt group. The other nine Hyatt hotels are now following suit, aiming to achieve a paperless status by the end of Q1 2024.
This transformative shift extends beyond operational tasks to guest services, with the adoption of digital platforms and innovative technologies like electronic check-ins, digital business cards, QR code menus, and paperless billing systems. Grand Hyatt Dubai's paperless initiative exemplifies the harmonious coexistence of innovation and sustainability, contributing to a greener environment and showcasing the hotel's commitment to a modern, tech-driven, and environmentally responsible future.
