What is Paper Not Foil?
A truly sustainable alternative to wasteful and non-biodegradable aluminium hair foils, Paper Not Foil is manufactured from recycled industrial scraps.
Can Paper not Foil be reused?
Each pack contains 500 sheets - equivalent to 200m – which can be reused up to three times. Although it is not mandatory to reuse the product, if you do reuse Paper Not Foil, it will help your salon to reduce toxic waste, which in turn reduces the carbon footprint – and in today’s eco-conscious world, every green step we take is a step in the right direction for safeguarding our planet’s future.
Can Paper Not Foil really replace aluminium foils?
With a chalk-like texture, Paper Not Foil is a thermal product so will conduct heat in the same manner as traditional foils, ensuring that the colour develops correctly. Essentially, the results are exactly the same as all traditional application methods, except you are safe in the knowledge that you are minimising waste, using a material that is made from recycled stone dust and is completely recyclable and degradable. Paper Not Foil is designed for all traditional techniques that can be achieved using traditional non-recyclable aluminium foil, including classic Highlights, baby lights. Furthermore, all freehand and creative techniques can be easily done and in the same manner as traditional foil.
Aside from the eco credentials, are there other benefits to using the product?
Aside from the obvious eco benefits, there are a few advantages that Paper Not Foil has, however, over its aluminium counterparts.
Paper Not Foil provides good grip to the hair, without any need to fold the edges into parcels, saving time on colour services. The reason for this is that colour needs oxygen to develop, and this chemical reaction will be allowed to happen organically if the papers are only folded up once. As an added bonus, this method allows you to watch the colour develop. The product also reduces the risk of chemical reaction you can get from using metal with colour, which can have a negative impact on the end result.
Paper Not Foil can be pre-cut not just in its specific length but in terms of angle too, which can make the application more accurate. For instance, when highlighting around the hairline you can cut Paper Not Foil to a triangular shape to match the client's head shape perfectly. For efficiency and accuracy, the length of the Paper Not Foil strip can be cut to match the amount of regrowth the client has when highlighting. For classic to the root highlights, you can make use of pre-used Paper Not Foil strips. Washing them (either in a machine or by hand) makes them more flexible when trying to match the client’s head shape in the same way as traditional foil.
Finally, because Paper Not Foil simply glides out of the hair without pulling or snagging, the colour service will be a more comfortable experience for your clients.
With so many benefits on offer, I would argue that it is time all salons took the progressive step of using Paper Not Foil!
