The future of aviation – Boeings 787 Greenliner lands in AUH

Etihad has teamed up with Boeing to test a program that will see the Greanliner collect data on sustainable flying.
The hopes of this initiative are to see the Greenliner replace all Dreamliners in their lineup. The green-liveried plane will gather information on all flights to better understand and further develop sustainable air travel. This is just one effort the UAE capital has put in place to move towards consolidating a diversified and sustainable economy by creating effective environmental solutions.
The Greenliner is equipped with FliteDeck Advisor software that reports fuel consumption and emission statistics to its pilots to adjust during the flight accordingly. During its delivery flight to Abu Dhabi 30% of the Greenliners fuel mix was sustainable, emitting approximately 50% less carbon dioxide in the lifecycle compared to standard Boeing 787s.
Mohamed Mubarak Fadhel Mazrouei Etihad Aviation Group chairman was quoted by hotelier saying “we have an immense responsibility, as a leader in the aviation community, to reducing carbon emissions and creating cleaner and more sustainable transportation for generations to come”.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEP. Stanley Deal said: "Boeing and Etihad Airways recognise climate change is a fundamental challenge of our time, and we’re united in doing our part to reduce greenhouse gases – in the air and on the ground."
As this initiative leads aviation into a greener future, it comes as the one of many greener initiatives that the hospitality industry in the UAE has put in place. With Jumeriah at Saadiyat Island Resort being the first Middle East hotel to make it into Oceanic’s Global league of eco-friendly hotels.
