Skincare experts slam dangerous TikTok #sunscreencontour trend

The ascent of another TikTok pattern where users are applying various amount of sun cream to their face with an end goal to feature cheekbones and give a "formed" impact. The pattern #sunscreencontour has 55k views on TikTok with different recordings consistently filling.
Victoria Evans, education manager at Dermalogica warned against this practive saying, "This trend is dangerous and can cause long-lasting damage to your skin. Any tanned contour lines are essentially sun damage markings. Using different levels in this viral trend causes unnecessary sun exposure which can cause you further problems with your skin.”
Evans advises that SPF should be reapplied every two hours and that half a teaspoon is the perfect amount to ensure full coverage for the face.
“Sunburn is caused by exposure to UVB radiation and burning can take place in as little as 5-10 minutes. The face, neck and trunk are two to four times more sensitive than the limbs and will burn more readily. It’s important to note that all skins can burn, and you should wear SPF consistently to prevent this," added Evans.
7 tips to help stay safe during the heatwave:
Do not expose burnt skin to the sun, even with application of SPF
Skin needs time to repair itself and will need a few days to recover after being burnt.
Try to avoid heat
Bathe in tepid water, keep as cool as possible and apply a cool compress (not icy cold) to ease discomfort.
Apply after-sun products that are gel based and cooling
Stay clear of heavy creams or oil-based formulas that can trap heat, making you feel even hotter.
Avoid menthol-based lotions
While it can be cooling or tingling on the skin, this ingredient is quite stimulating.
Look for ingredients with cooling, soothing and hydrating benefits
Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, algae extract, cucumber, aloe vera, chamomile, lavender, clove, and oats will help calm and soothe inflamed, warm skin.
