AlUla Development Company (UDC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has officially broken ground on NUMAJ, Autograph Collection. The milestone project directly supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, aiming to diversify the kingdom's economy and elevate its national tourism footprint.
To mark the transition from concept to reality, senior leadership, including UDC Managing Director John Pagano and Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) CEO Abeer AlAkel, recently conducted an official site visit to review the commencement of construction.
"NUMAJ marks a clear step forward in our delivery agenda," said John Pagano. "As we move into construction, our focus is on executing high-quality, investment-ready developments that strengthen AlUla’s positioning, while shaping distinctive hospitality experiences that enhance its long-term appeal as a global destination and a vibrant community."
The Vision: Where Celestial History Meets Modern Luxury
Expected to open its doors in 2027, the 250-key hotel is being developed by UDC and will be operated by Marriott International under its prestigious Autograph Collection Hotels portfolio.
The property’s identity is deeply rooted in the region's geography and history:
- The Name: "NUMAJ" is inspired by the Nu Ursae Majoris star system, which ancient travelers historically used as a navigation reference point when crossing AlUla.
- The Design: Crafted by GioForma, the architectural masterminds behind AlUla's iconic, mirrored Maraya hall, the hotel's design mirrors the valley's dramatic natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
- The Amenities: The resort will feature five distinct dining venues, premium wellness facilities, and fully integrated spaces tailored for both business and leisure travelers.
Built with Sustainability in Mind
In alignment with AlUla's commitment to environmental preservation, NUMAJ is actively targeting a LEED Gold certification. The development incorporates advanced eco-conscious initiatives, including:
- Water Conservation: Utilizing greywater reuse systems for irrigation alongside water-efficient landscaping.
- Resource Efficiency: Prioritizing locally sourced building materials.
- Energy & Atmosphere: Integrating UV-resistant glazing, energy-conscious lighting, and strict adherence to AlUla’s Dark Sky policy to preserve the region's famous starry nights.
Driving AlUla’s Masterplan
The commencement of work solidifies UDC’s role as the core development and investment engine turning AlUla’s masterplan into tangible assets. Working hand-in-hand with the RCU, UDC’s expanding portfolio is designed to establish AlUla as a premier global destination to visit, live, and invest in.
